This week we are talking about all things Olive, these Mediterranean trees are one of the biggest sellers on the nursery. They have always been a firm favourite for smaller gardens or in pots to add different foliage to the garden and adding that holiday feel, some of you may have seen my own. garden, a row of sculptured Olive trees underplanted with a broad bed of lavender.
Olive trees for outdoors first, anyone who has an Olive in the garden will know how reasonably easy they are to keep, they need a good amount of water although they don’t like to be sitting in water or waterlogged ground. They need an occasional feed, usually I’d feed mine twice a year, I use the Specialist Olive feed once in March and again in July. I tend to keep mine outside all Winter and only protect it if we are going to get a really cold snap then I bring them closer to the house for cover, obviously these are only the smaller ones in pots. For the larger and planted ones, this isn’t an option, one year I did lose a lot of the foliage but was more the amount of water that fell than the extreme cold. They looked a little sparse for a month o0r two but as soon as the new growth they really did come back with lovely fresh new silver grey foliage, it almost gave them a lovely pruning that they probably needed.
The range of Olive trees we now stock is very wide with plenty of options to choose from small half and quarter standard right through to lour most mature centennial trees. We always a selection of cloud pruned trees as well as having the most beautiful bonsai forms. Let us help you by handpicking the tree for you and sending you images based on your requirements
The sizes of the Olive trees will depend on the room you have, we have some amazing old rugged ones with a huge wide but low trunk with a large head of foliage which I just love.
