This remarkable variety brings months of continuous colour, creating a luminous beacon that brightens even the gloomiest of days with its cheerful disposition and unwavering reliability.
From early summer through to autumn’s embrace, ‘Magical Universe’ produces an endless succession of bright golden blooms, each flower adorned with a crown of delicate stamens that dance in the gentlest breeze. The compact, rounded habit creates perfect mounds of colour, whilst the fresh green foliage provides an ideal backdrop for the star-like flowers that seem to capture and hold the very essence of sunlight.
This magical cultivar earns its celestial name through its extraordinary flowering performance and remarkable resilience in Irish conditions. Hardy and adaptable, it thrives in our changeable climate, asking for little yet giving so much in return. Whether planted as a specimen, grouped for dramatic impact, or woven through mixed borders, ‘Magical Universe’ brings structure and continuous interest throughout the growing season.
Pair this golden treasure with purple-flowered companions like lavender or salvia for striking contrasts, or combine with other yellow-toned plants such as rudbeckia and helenium for a warm, harmonious palette. Perfect for cottage gardens, contemporary landscapes, or wildlife-friendly spaces where its nectar-rich blooms will attract beneficial insects to your Irish garden sanctuary.
Caragh Garden Notebook
Planting: Space plants 60-80cm apart in well-drained soil. Dig holes twice the width of the root ball and incorporate organic matter. Plant at the same depth as in the container. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch around the base.
Soil Preparation: Tolerates a wide range of soil conditions including poor, sandy, or clay soils. Ensure good drainage as waterlogged conditions can cause root problems. pH range 6.0-7.5 is ideal, though adaptable to slightly alkaline conditions.
Container Growing: Excellent for pots using quality compost with added grit for drainage. Choose containers at least 40cm wide. Water regularly during growing season but allow to dry slightly between waterings in winter.
Seasonal Care: Prune lightly in early spring, removing any dead or damaged wood and shaping as needed. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming. Apply balanced fertiliser in spring. Mulch annually with compost or well-rotted manure.
Division: Established clumps can be divided in early spring every 3-4 years. Lift carefully, divide using sharp spades, ensuring each section has healthy roots and shoots. Replant immediately and water well until established.
